The best and ongoing purchase I’ve ever made is supporting our local community farm. Eating vegetables that have been grown with love has, a bit like buying solar panels, an over-and-above the facts of purchase sense of satisfaction. The thing I notice is that we have less food waste and we’re buying into supporting our planet, and our sense of appreciation of our food has more than doubled. We eat a lot of carrots in our house in the winter, and going several weeks without carrots when they weren’t in season made me appreciate them all the more. That said, I’m still supplementing with chemically grown food, but considerably less. I personally feel healthier, but that of course may be just a living in alignment with my values kind of response. I don’t know about others; I’m just saying how I feel personally, and I recognise my privilege.
I’m not great at growing my own vegetables, but that said, tonight’s supper includes my own grown tomatoes and courgettes, which, despite the weather, I’ve just about managed to keep alive.
Our local community farm supplies a café, and surplus when they have it goes to a foodbank, as I understand it.
I had a follow-up call with Ambicious Essex; they’ve said they’ll look for the email I sent. I spoke about how I’m at an intersection.
Last night, as I was going to bed, I was talking about the frustrations I’ve had with setting up my mailbox. How, despite trying multiple numbers, it just kept telling me I couldn’t use those numbers (any numbers, it seemed to me!) and how there was no end to this circular response. Then we tried a different number, and it worked on the third time of trying! So now you might even be able to reach me, should you wish to explore your own response to climate change, staff retention and regulatory requirements from a soon-to-be ex-nurse point of view.
