Here Our ground is parched, and the street trees’ bark is cracking. I don’t know about trees, but with humans, cracks in the skin allow infection. The trees that blew down in the wind last Autumn showed how they were rotting from the inside out. The newly planted trees are dying for lack of water, and still we continue extracting.
Someone posted on Facebook about a road completely covered in water, leaving people puzzled since there hadn’t been any rain. Whilst the inconvenience of the flood for pedestrians and vehicles, perhaps the mains leak provided welcome relief for wildlife and street trees?
I poured last night’s undrunk water onto the thirsty ground and was surprised to note how it immediately came to life; ants and flying insects came from all around. Do you have a pond? A little tray of water? Anything for the creatures to drink? Last night’s water sitting beside the bed?
Whilst some of us were working yesterday, we walked from Frinton to The Naze and had an ice cream. Passed the games on the beach, walkers and chatters.
I’d forgotten it was the kite festival. That ripple effect that someone was talking about was seen as the Anglia Kite flyers packed up their gear, and as we were eating our sandwiches in the Naze café, remembering a long-ago party, people popped in to buy kites, joining the homemade ones and the many families flying theirs.
Some of us watched the kites and some of us watched the swallows and swifts; some of us noted the shift in the Naze tower and commented about the edge. Working to Save The Naze – The Naze Protection Society. Will you be going to the Save the Naze party? Sunday, 16 August, noon till 4 pm
We nipped into the Wildlife centre for a wee. The usual toilets behind the café have gone now, as if calls of nature have disappeared. Both the inside and outside ones at the wildlife centre are a bit neglected; as someone rightly commented, they’re a bit grim. Perhaps that will be different for the party? Going forward? Changing Places Toilets?
Have you had enough to drink? Topped up your refillable container?
