I’m not sure we have a style. It’s made up of bits and bobs we’ve accumulated over the years. Things made by the children, plants I’ve been given, lots of books. It needs painting, a job we haven’t quite got round to.
Yesterday we were talking about insulation. Our thermal blinds are probably about 20 years old and each year come into their own as the world gets hotter. A little frayed now but still perfectly functional.
We have a little fence across the dining room to stop the bunny getting too close to the computer; over the years she’s chewed more wires than I care to remember! When she was younger and enjoyed playing with her toys and seeking out adventure. The toys she comes back to are those stacking cups.
We had another emergency vet trip yesterday. Thanks to Haven Vets for getting us in promptly. She’d been happily lazing under the bushes, and when our daughter came home from work, she noticed some flies sitting on her head. On closer inspection, we found hundreds of fly eggs and maggots! I’m not sure if the fly strike medicine is wearing off or what, but it was shocking, poor love. Carefully combing out the eggs and maggots, losing lots of fur that had finally grown back. Another consequence of the heat, we’re told. So she’s back indoors, away from the flies. Lying on her cool mat. Now both of us have the door shut.
I can’t say that I am surprised by the report above. Poor loves. £70 later and a check-up later in the week to see all is now ok. She’s looking a bit odd now that she’s shaved. The intensive care continues, three times a day. When I got her out of her bed this morning, she was lying in wee. Is she incontinent now, too much effort to move, despite the pain relief? Maybe just at night? This morning’s wee was on the special mat that has the tiniest of lip just so that it doesn’t run away and doesn’t involve climbing into the litter tray. Washing her feet under the tap and then preparing the cooled boiled water mild saline mix to gently cleanse the newly shaved skin, poor love. Do people know what they are taking on when they have a bunny? Please don’t confine them to a hutch. It must be even more horrific in this heat. We bought our bunny from a breeder; she no longer breeds bunnies. It’s bad enough ours doesn’t have a companion bunny, and we’re trying to give her the best life she can, where we’re at. I’ve just bought some more of that fly prevention stuff. I’m hopeful that she’ll be able to sit out under the tree when her wounds are healed. Usually she has a choice as to where she spends her time, some days indoors, some days out, some days in and out. Today she’s on her cool mat indoors without the choice, like in the winter when it’s too wet and muddy to be in and out for the convenience of my kitchen floor. If we had another, we’d get them from a rescue.
Then I wonder about all those bunnies at the Haven; the badgers, the muntjac what devastation did that fire bring to their lives? Who advocates for them?
